Clip.: Starting with the brief, before the platform
Start with the job the brand needs done
Clip. connects brands with creators who make videos for their campaigns. I worked with the founders on the brand and first product, within a bootstrapped team’s limited resources.
The useful first step was a content brief. Putting it before account creation let brands explain what they needed and let the team begin matching them with creators before the full platform was ready.
Make onboarding useful immediately
Instead of asking people to sign up and land on an empty dashboard, we took them straight into creating a brief. The flow collected their requirements while explaining creative choices, pricing and what would happen next.
The team used those briefs as leads and matched brands with creators manually during development. That gave the business a way to operate before every part of the workflow had been automated.
Make the next step clear
A campaign brought together its brief, applicants, active collaborators and finished videos. Brands needed to know where each collaboration stood and whether they had something to do next.
I designed around explicit collaboration states rather than adding a full messaging system to the first version. We also kept applicants available so a brand could approve more creators for a successful campaign without starting again.
Keep the work useful beyond one campaign
A shared media library let marketers review and reuse videos across campaigns. Agency users could switch between brands while keeping their work separate.
We used Tailwind CSS and a restrained visual system to fit the team’s resources. The product decisions followed the same principle: make the core collaboration workable first, then expand the platform around it.
